Who is Hive and Barrel Meadery?

Hive and Barrel Meadery is actually a team of three owners.

Chris Brian and Lacie Monno come to Hive and Barrel as owners with a TON of business experience and acumen from their other ventures, including Six Row Events, and Backside Grill.  They are both successful business persons in their own right, and they bring that teamwork to Hive and Barrel, along with their enthusiasm for mead.

Joel Halbleib comes to Hive and Barrel as an owner, head mead maker, and director of operations, and is better known to many as the face of Goodwood Brewing in Louisville, KY where was COO/Brewmaster for 14 years.  Joel has a long history of brewing award winning beer at the commercial levels, and making award winning beer and mead at home for over thirty years. He brings a wealth of knowledge in beverage production technology, distribution, marketing, quality control, inventory control, and client relations to the table.

Mike Pemberton is one of the founders but has since moved on, he came to Hive and Barrel as an owner and mead maker, and is the former VP of the LAGERS (Louisville Area Grain and Extract Research Society) Homebrew Club.  Mike has been a homebrewer for going on 10 years, and for the past 7 years he has been primarily focused on mead and cider production.  Mike is the Meadmaker/Cidermaker of the Year at the 2017 Kentucky State Fair, as well as the 2017 winner of the St. Andrews Award.  He has also taken medals at the Indiana State Fair, and several other nation-wide mead competitions.  Mike is one of only two BJCP Certified Mead Judges in the State of Kentucky.
